The CLub 76 story
Club 76 first became an idea in 1996 with one of Jason's best mates Rob Lowe. After watching a band called Tummybug at the Cambridge pub in Shoebury near Southend we walked home. On that walk back to Rob's house the 76 sign followed us. The next day Rob challenged Jason to open a nightclub, believing that one day he would have a nightclub called Club 76.
Jason bought his first house in 2001 and installed the sign on his shed and
'Shed 76' at the bottom of the garden was born. It became a hangout, mainly
for everyone to smoke!
The next chapter was when Jason and his wife Rebecca bought their first
home together. They named their garage Club 76 and over the years family
and friends treated them to lights and signs and shared the joy of parties. In
2012, the couple bought their current home and Club 76 became its first
stand-alone venue complete with sound system, back bar and loo complete
with grafitti.
During the Covid-19 outbreak of 2020, best friends Jason Nottage and Paul
Gray got together for a round of golf just before the lockdown and came up
with the idea of entertaining people by playing DJ sets using Facebook Live
via the Club 76 Facebook page.
As the word spread they watched in disbelief as the community grew from 50,
then 100, to 500, to over 2000 followers and continues to grow daily. Jason
worked tirelessly, sometimes into the small hours, fitting around his main job, to recruit new DJs to keep the vibe fresh, exciting and to expand the family of DJs and followers. That said, Club 76 is a huge team effort and couldn't be what it is today without every single one of the team and all our followers. We are especially proud to hear of the positive impact Club 76 has made to people's mental health during the lockdown period, our global reach and the wonderful opportunity to fundraise for those in need, all through the powerful medium of music.
A huge THANK YOU and WOW! to everyone involved for making Rob's prophecy and Jason's dream come true.
